The Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) Initiative is holding a live pitch competition during the 2017 Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Hyderabad, India November 28-30. The GIST Catalyst pitch competition will include featured startups from India, the United States and other countries from around the world. Through the competition, young entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to elevate their pitch and showcase the startups they are working on. Teams will also learn how to pitch their business ideas to investors and potential partners—a critical skill for entrepreneurs.
Startups competing in GIST Catalyst will be from the four focus industries of the GES, which are Energy and Infrastructure, Health and Life Sciences, Financial Tech and the Digital Economy, and Media and Entertainment. During the GES, startup teams will give three minute pitches, without slides, to a small panel of judges followed by two to three minutes of questions.
From these preliminary rounds, four winners will be picked, one for each industry. Those winners will then pitch again during the GES closing session and a top winner will be selected. Entrepreneurs will be competing for prizes, such as $100,000 worth of Amazon Web Services credits, which can be used on tech training and cloud computing platforms. AWS is a subsidiary of Amazon.com that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms to individuals, companies and governments.
GIST Catalyst teams competing during GES 2017 will be selected after opting into the competition on their GES application, completing a supplemental application on GISTNetwork.org and uploading a 90 second pitch video for public voting and review. Finalist from the public voting and review will then be given online and in-person coaching at the GES before competing in the GIST Catalyst pitch competition.
For entrepreneurs who cannot attend the GES in India, there are still opportunities to participate in GIST Catalyst through the public voting portion of the competition. Select pitch sessions will also be live streamed from India. The live stream feed can be found on the GES homepage. The GIST Initiative is also launching a free online resources for entrepreneurs both at the GES and around the world. GIST Mentor Match is an online portal that connects potential mentors with founders, creating mentorships based on the specific needs of a startup and the specific strengths of a mentor.
Given the high-quality startups attending GES 2017, the GIST Catalyst pitch competition will become an avenue to highlight up-and-coming entrepreneurs at the GES. To learn more about GIST Catalyst pitch competition and how to participate, click here.
