The United States and India will co-host the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) November 28-30 in Hyderabad, India, which will focus on supporting women entrepreneurs and fostering economic growth globally.
In a press release, the U.S. Department of State also confirmed Ivanka Trump, adviser to the President, will lead the U.S. delegation at the Summit.
President Donald J. Trump announced the location of the 2017 Summit in June, during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the White House.
The theme of GES this year is “Women First, Prosperity for All,” which aims to illustrate that when women do better, countries do better.
According to the State Department’s press release, GES 2017 will create an environment that empowers innovators, particularly women, to take their ideas to the next level. Their voices are critical to global security, prosperity, and peace.
GES has been organized annually since 2010, gathering more than 1,000 emerging entrepreneurs, investors and supporters from around the world. The 2017 Summit will also mark a special milestone for the event, as it is the first time the GES will be hosted in South Asia. The Summit will highlight India’s enabling environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.
According to the State Department, through two and a half days of training and mentoring sessions, networking and investment matchmaking, the U.S. and India will forge new collaborations and initiatives as well as reduce the barriers to international growth and innovation.
The Global Innovations through Science and Technology (GIST) Initiative has also participated in previous Summits as part of the GIST Tech-I Competition. GIST Tech-I Finals were held at the GES 2016 in Silicon Valley, USA. Finalists received in-person training and mentorship, networking with entrepreneurs and investors, and pitched their idea or startup in front of Summit attendees for a chance to bring home seed capital prizes.
This year’s Summit will focus on four key industry sectors: energy and infrastructure; healthcare and life sciences; financial technology and digital economy; and media and entertainment.
