We are excited to announce that the next GIST Startup Boot Camp will take place in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from September 27-30, 2016. The deadline for applications is August 26, 2016. To participate, please complete the application in full.
Vietnam's Entrepreneurial Climate
According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), entrepreneurship in Vietnam continues to face difficulties. Fear of failure is still high (50%), although less so than it was in 2013 (57%). The rate of adults perceiving good entrepreneurial opportunities decreased - from 44% in 2013 to 39% in 2014. Similarly, the entrepreneurial intention rate - those intending to start a business within 3 years - decreased from 24% in 2013 to 18% in 2014.
However, there are signs of improvement. The rate of adults assessing themselves as having entrepreneurial capabilities leapt to 58% from 34% in 2013.
Boot Camp Benefits
Teams participating in GIST Startup Boot Camps receive practical training on customer discovery, business models, channel economics, market discovery and pitching. They also have access to one-on-one coaching from international and local mentors. The program also offers teams a chance to “get out of the building” to discover their potential customers.
On the final day, the teams participate in a Demo Day and present all they have learned to instructors and a panel of expert judges. The top teams receive seed capital for their ventures. All participating teams have access to continued mentorship.
