Using a Global Growth Perspective to Support Science Startups

November 4, 2018

One way entrepreneurs can scale successfully is by looking at their business from a global perspective – even if a startup is only trying to grow locally. This was the focus of the GIST Masterclass Series in Casablanca, Morocco during Demo Africa in October.

The one-day masterclass provides an intensive course for entrepreneurs to learn new concepts and immediately apply them in their own businesses and ecosystem.

The October Masterclass helped participating Moroccan entrepreneurs learn the best way they can apply a global perspective to support science or technology startups. Course facilitator Dr. Agostinho Almeida showed entrepreneurs how a global outlook on scalability can help a business make sound decisions on growth strategy. The masterclass also focused on key business concepts and startup best practices.

Amazon Web Services sponsored the Masterclass Series in Morocco on supporting science startups. Through its sponsorship, AWS generously awarded five entrepreneurs with $1,000 in AWS credits at the end of the masterclass via raffle.

AWS Credits can be used by entrepreneurs for tech training and cloud computing capabilities – critical resources for startups using technology such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things or large data analysis.

The GIST Masterclass Series is done in partnership with LIONS@FRICA and VentureWell. GIST is the U.S. Department of State’s flagship science and tech entrepreneurship program supporting entrepreneurs in more than 130 emerging economies around the world.
