Congratulations to the CleanTech Innovation Challenge Winners in Morocco!

January 26, 2017

On Friday, January 20, 2017, eight Moroccan innovators presented their CleanTech innovations to an expert panel of judges during the CleanTech Innovation Challenge Demo Day.

Congratulations to the three winners!

Best Social Innovation: Hanane Rifai of Hydrobarley. Hydrobarley is a social enterprise specializing in the production of fodder (animal feed) that's green, fresh and accessible to small farmers. The company incorporates hydroponics into their process, which helps save a considerable amount of water.

Best Business Idea: Hassan El Hemer of BioChar. Biochar is an organic fertilizer made from coal dust created by charred biomass. It is rich in mineral fertilizers and can store carbon. It helps to develop a plant's roots and keep the essential bacterial mechanism for soil regeneration.

Best Scientific Innovation: Ghizlane Enaime of ActiChar. The company plans to recover waste from the olive industry (pomace and vegetation water) to produce a high-value carbon material through a thermal process called carbonization hydrotharmal, or HTC. This integrated process will lessen the large amount of olive waste generated in Morocco.
