Watch: Makers Without Borders webinar on sustainability-focused makerspaces

October 9, 2019

Makers Without Borders is a monthly collaborative webinar with American Spaces Philippines along with different FAB LABs. It is an outlet for Innovation Hubs in the GISTNetwork to learn about and discuss a wide range of topics.

In the October webinar, the panelists touched on how FAB LABs and maker spaces are good avenues to help people discover and develop innovative solutions that contribute to or promote environmental sustainability.

Here are some discussion highlights:

  • El Space Social Innovation GIST I-Hub of Lebanon shared their initiative of developing a Makeathon to introduce inventing for environmental sustainability.

  • The American Spaces Philippines along with Makerspace Manila shared their education initiatives on environmental sustainability.

  • Innovative solutions focused on waste management linked to product development.

  • Innovation founders from the GIST I-Hubs shared their innovations that upcycles waste and transforms them into products that are of value.

Along with the help of American Spaces Philippines, the webinar was hosted by the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines, the GIST I-Hubs of Tunisia, El Space, Lebanon, Berytech, and FAB LAB Mindanao. Lesstics, the 3rd placed GIST APEC Catalyst Pitching Competition in La Serena, Chile, was one of the Panelists.

Another Makers Without Borders webinar is planned for November with an additional GIST I-Hub. They will collaborate on Fabricating Intellectual Property.
